Does Yahoo use Inktomi in its Search Engine Results?

Reason I ask is because I heard they were acquired by Yahoo some time again and it seems that Inktomi DOES still use the “KEYWORDS” META-TAG to index pages.

There is some truth to that. Yahoo owns Inktomi and labels it’s organic/algo “inktomi.”

Since Y! also has it’s own engine, these are the results it syndicates to other sites. So, most search sites having feeds from Yahoo! are just receiving Yahoo! results, not Inktomi these days. (You probably remember when Inktomi was the power behind web search.)

The Keyword tag has been abused for years, which has changed it’s weight in ranking sites. Most engines like Google and MSN disregard the contents since the words do not always correctly reflect the page as much as content or back links might.

You could test the keyword tag inclusion easily by adding a unique keyword in your keyword tag, then searching the major engines to see where it shows up.

** Edit **
The place Y! labels it is to search providers – it’s not on the Y! page at all.
