Search Engine Optimization…!!?

Hi there,

I’m new to putting together websites, and we’re currently slicing them in image ready and then putting them into dreamweaver to create the links, roll overs, etc. I know this isn’t ideal but for what we’re doing, it’s currently working.

HOWEVER, we’re having issues with having the search engines pick up our websites.
I understand that google no longer uses metatags, so I was wondering how we get around this.

I’m quite new to it all so simple explanations would be really appreciated!

Thanks so much.

It’s definitely not true that Google doesn’t use any meta tags. In fact the description meta tag is one of the most important elements of your page and you should definitely include it. Read more here:

Search engines have trouble indexing text in images, so try to use plain text on your sites instead of text in images. If you do have to use images then make sure that each image has the appropriate text in the ‘alt’ tag which you should be able to set in Dreamweaver.

If you are having troubles getting indexed, then there could be many reasons for that. It’s worth signing up with Google’s webmaster tools which will report if there were any issues while indexing your site. .

Finally, the best way to get noticed by the search engines is by getting some links from other reputable sites to yours. Web directories are a good start, the most important ones are: http//, and however there are hundreds more.

If this is important to you then I recommend reading a book on the subject. Search Engine Marketing, Inc by Mike Moran and Bill Hunt is easy to understand and excellent.
