Techniques for Creating and Promoting a Tourism Web Site?

I am in charge of building and then marketing a tourism web site for the Nation of Georgia (on the Black Sea). We have a lot to offer, but a bit of history to overcome. Tourism from America and Europe is currently very low, but in the early 80’s we have five million visitors a years (from the old Soviet Union). What I am looking for are ideas for how to create a web site so interesting and unique that it would draw people in to the amazing experiences we have to offer here (helicopter skiing, mountain climbing, 4000 year old wine culture). is a great site, probably the best, but we want to do something even better. I have had quite a bit of experience on the web, but not recently, and no experience in tourism. How can I brand the country, what sort of features must I include, how can I organize the home page to draw people in, what sort of sites should I look at, and last but not least, how can I market the site online once I build it?

The best way is to look at other small countries and see how they set up their websites. The great thing about www is that the souce is open and, unless copyrighted, you can copy and modify for your needs.
To do this, right click and view source. OR go to the top tool menu and click view source.
Compare the websites with other major countries and get a feel of what the general layout requires.
You would want to have translators type out a few countires language such as English, Spanish, French, and so on.

Good luck.
